Planning permission has been approved for a new house at Hawick in the Scottish Borders. The project continues the practice’s ongoing research into the use of timber in contemporary design.

Continuing the practice’s successful design and build of artists studios, we are currently in the process of completing new studios in Rattray and West Ferry.

Fergus Purdie was invited to be a guest speaker at mat.zine’s first ever event: persistence of an idea where friends and contributers of mat.zine had a rich discussion centred around the topic of resilience.
The practice also contributed to mat.zine #11 which is now hot off the press!
This summer saw the completion of a new house by the practice at Glen Road, Dunblane. The clients are now fully settled in and work on the landscaping is well in progress.
The Window at 5 Melville Street is hosting a selection of works by the artist Katie Houston BA(Hons) Fine Art who studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.
Sunnyside, Lindrick, Doncaster awarded a commendation in the category for Best Individual House/Domestic Project.
The Purdie/Watson Studio Collaboration in Perth, Scotland has been featured in the accaimed art magazine and e-journal Studio International in an article by Michael Spens. Enjoying a worldwide readership, Studio International was one of the first art magazines to embrace the internet and become an e-journal.
The practice has been invited to participate in the The Royal Scottish Academy 186th ANNUAL EXHIBITION being held between 28 April – 6 June 2012 at the RSA, The Mound, Edinburgh. This curated exhibition features invited new works from across Scotland and beyond.

The practice was highlighted in a recent Scotland on Sunday ‘at Home’ magazine article on self build projects, with Balcarres Mill featuring on the front cover.
Two projects – The Camera Obscura and 5 Melville Street – were featured in the Architecture Scotland Annual 2011.
5 Melville Street was also included in the British Council ADF Papers (Series 2) exploring new directions in British Architecture – “Context and Change in Scottish Architecture”
Melville Street has been awarded a silver award for the Regeneration category at the Roses Design Awards 2011. To see list of winners click here
Recently invited by Scott Sutherland School of Architecture to present a lecture on the ideas and values of Patrick Geddes entitled – Generalism Enacted. The lecture was an opportunity for Masters students, currently working on urban design projects, to be introduced to the background, influence and application of Geddesian philosophy in a historical context (e.g. Team 10) and contemporary practice.
5 Melville Street has been nominated as a finalist for the Roses Design Awards 2011 – regeneration category. The Roses Design Awards are about promoting excellence in design and the winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony which will take place on the 13th October 2011.
