Fort William Marathon Bonanza

The practice is supporting William’s participation in the Fort William Marathon on July the 26th.

He has decided to fundraise for Maggie’s Centres as it involves raising money for hospice care and support for cancer patients, as well as using Architect designed buildings to create amazing spaces for the patients and their families to use.

To view his fundraising page click here and please donate if you can. Thanks! Good luck William!

RSA New Contemporaries 2015

RSA New Contemporaries, 14 March 2015 – 08 April 2015

With the final adjustments to the exhibition being completed we look forward to the opening event this coming Friday. As Architecture Convenor, we have selected this year’s work following visits to the various Scottish Schools of Architecture. The focus of selection was on the use of models – conceptual to tectonic – in the spirit of scholarship, exploration and risk. The theme of making and crafting resonates throughout all of the works thereby offering lessons in the use of working models as a means to test ideas and establish values. The selected work is taken from the Year 5 portfolio of degree shows and represents the fine line between studying and practicing architecture; a critical stage in the development of professional skills that clearly demonstrate the aspirations and visions of a new generation of young architects.

Scotland+Venice Exhibition

The Scotland + Venice exhibition (6 February – 18 March 2015) re-presents and reviews five diverse projects shown by Scotland in Venice during its International Architecture Biennale since 2004. Reflecting five different exhibitions and contributions, the Scotland + Venice exhibition at The Lighthouse, Glasgow, gives audiences in Scotland an opportunity to see the breadth and variety of how Scottish architecture has been represented internationally.

The exhibition will be launched by Ms Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Europe and External Affairs.

As part of the exhibition programme the practice will introduce “Land Works continues…..IDENTITY” at the Lighthouse on Friday 13th February 2015.

Scotland + Venice

Past + Present

With our week at the Biennale complete, the opportunity to reflect on Team 03’s contribution begins. Our newspaper was well received and interest in the emerging research highlighted the Scottish contribution to the overall theme – Fundamentals.

We were joined by Sean McAlister and Ian Pollard, of Matzine, for our Friday evening event at the Ludoteca Santa Maria Ausiliatrice. A full audience in attendance encouraged a wide range of exchanges, ideas and view in response to our presentation.

Our preparations are now underway for participating in the Past + Present Venice – exhibition, event and tour currently being organised by Architecture+Design Scotland.

Wolfhill Houses – Planning Approved

Practice proposal for 4 houses at Wolfhill, Perthshire received full support at a recent planning development meeting. The design approach consists of a terraced layout combining the use of simple forms with a limited palette of external materials including natural stone, timber and zinc. The intention is to progress the project to its next stage of development with an anticipated start on site 2015.

Architects in Practice – Dundee Civic Trust

We have been invited to give a presentation of our practice work which embraces the ideas and values of Scottish polymath Sir Patrick Geddes (1854-1932). This presentation will look at some of our broad spectrum of work, developed along Geddesian lines of enquiry.

Silverton Farm Nears Completion

Silverton Farm makes progress towards completion within the next few weeks. The alteration and extension to an existing property at Braco has been an exciting and challenging project using a combination of timber cladding and zinc to achieve a new vernacular in a rural context.

Scotland + Venice (Venice Architecture Biennale 2014)

Following the selection of Reiach & Hall to curate Scotland’s contribution at the Venice Architecture Biennale, Neil Gillespie (Director of Reiach & Hall) has invited the practice to lead one of the four teams that will re-examine and re-interpret the Scottish Modernist buildings of the mid 1950’s and 1960’s. The outcome of our practice research will be presented during one week of a four week programme at the Biennale in October 2014.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for the practice to participate in such a prestigious event.
